Why a strong short film release matters

A completed film deserves more than a private link. A considered release can create a clear public premiere, a professional portfolio reference and a stronger way for audiences to discover the people behind the work.

For independent filmmakers, the release stage is part of the film’s journey. DPIFF’s current Release Program is designed for completed creative projects that are ready to be reviewed and, if approved, presented through an official digital channel.

Move from final export to a release moment your audience can find.

What the DPIFF Short Film Release Program offers

The current programme information lists a set of digital, editorial and recognition benefits for approved projects.

01

Official digital release

Approved projects can premiere on DPIFF’s official YouTube channel, giving the film a defined public release destination.

02

Promotional visibility

The programme lists social promotion and a dedicated blog feature to help present the project beyond the video upload.

03

Filmmaker recognition

Current programme information includes a Recommendation Certificate and golden-frame thumbnail treatment for approved releases.

Important application note: Payment of the release fee does not guarantee publication. DPIFF states that final release is subject to review and jurors’ discretion. If a project is not approved, the full fee is refunded.

How to apply for a Short Film Release

Prepare your project carefully so the application communicates the film clearly and makes review easier.

1

Choose the Short Film category

Select Short Film in the official DPIFF Release application. The current programme also accepts Music Videos, Documentaries and Animated Films.

2

Share a working project link

Provide the completed film through a working link and add a password if access is protected. Test the link before submitting.

3

Prepare your release materials

Keep the project name, summary, suggested YouTube title, YouTube description, blog quote, Instagram ID, thumbnail and poster ready.

4

Review rights and consent

Before applying, confirm that you have the necessary permissions for music, footage, artwork, performances, locations and other third-party material.

5

Complete payment and submit

The current release page lists a one-time fee of ₹10,000. Review the live terms, fee and consent wording before completing the application.

Make your film release-ready

A strong Short Film Release application begins with a finished, audience-ready project. Check that the picture is locked, the sound is balanced, credits are accurate, subtitles are readable and the viewing link works without unnecessary access barriers.

The live DPIFF form currently requests a 1280 × 720 thumbnail and a 720 × 1280 poster, with a maximum file size of 10 MB and up to four files. Use the exact specifications shown on the form at the time you apply.
