The 2025 ceremony features the theme ‘A World Stage: The Global Legacy of Indian Cinema’. This theme honours the lasting impact of Indian films on global cinema, highlighting both their historical significance and contemporary relevance. It celebrates the worldwide recognition of Indian cinema and its contributions to the enrichment of international film culture. The occasion will showcase cultural diversity, rich heritage, world-famous Indian cuisine, folk dance, folk music, handloom and the beauty of Swadeshi.

The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) proudly celebrates the extraordinary legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke, hailed as the “Father of Indian Cinema.” His groundbreaking achievement in creating India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913, sparked the birth of Indian cinema, laying the foundation for a vibrant, thriving industry cherished by millions today.

From frame to legacies

Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) was founded in 2012 and established in 2016 to carry forward the legacy of Late Shri Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, lovingly known as Dadasaheb Phalke – The Father of Indian Cinema. The festival celebrates and recognizes the brilliance of the Indian Film Industry and the ever-evolving cultural impact that India is making on a global scale, primarily through the medium of cinema.

The ceremony showcases the brilliance of the Indian film industry by spotlighting emerging projects and elevating them to mainstream recognition. The platform aspires to harmonize both technical and mainstream accolades, ensuring that recognition is solely based on contributions to cinema. From illustrious megastars to emerging filmmakers, every individual will be honoured under one unified emblem. It unites three distinguished sectors, namely Indian Film, Indian Television and the International Film Fraternity, under one roof, celebrating their shared excellence and contributions.

About screening gala

As part of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, one of the most anticipated segment is the Screening Gala, where the Top 10 Short Films are showcased before the main awards ceremony. This exclusive gala brings together a diverse panel of jurors from all walks of life industry veterans, creatives and thought leaders who meticulously evaluate and rank these remarkable short films. The screening serves as a platform for filmmakers to present their vision, talent and unique storytelling to an esteemed audience of industry insiders, media representatives and film enthusiasts.

The Festival has garnered an overwhelming response, with over 10,000 submissions pouring in from more than 60 countries across the globe. DPIFF is proud to feature a distinguished panel of jurors, composed of renowned filmmakers and esteemed figures from a variety of fields. These luminaries will preside over the selection process, meticulously determining the winners in the prestigious Best Short Film category during the ceremony.

The Screening Gala plays a pivotal role in the festival’s unwavering commitment to promoting and celebrating short films. This distinguished event presents the exquisite Invitation for the edition, which draws inspiration from the current theme of the ceremony. Furthermore, it unveils the official host for the main award ceremony, reveals the line-up of performances, and announces the prestigious Award of the occasion.
