Nawazuddin Siddiqui Shoots For Tumbbad 2 During Eid, Says, “It will be a working festival”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently shooting for Tumbbad 2 and has said that Eid will be a working day for him this year as well. The actor shared that he is busy filming the sequel and is excited about the role because of the character’s different layers in the story.

Talking about the shoot, Nawazuddin said, “It is going to be a working festival for me. Even on Eid, I am shooting for Tumbbad 2. I am very excited about bringing this character to life as it has multiple layers.”

The first Tumbbad was released in 2018 and slowly became one of the most discussed horror films in Indian cinema. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi, the film starred Sohum Shah as Vinayak Rao, a man obsessed with finding hidden treasure in the village of Tumbbad in Maharashtra. The story mixed horror, mythology and greed, which is why the film later built a strong fan following through OTT and re-releases.

The film also created history after premiering at the Venice International Film Festival in the Critics’ Week section. It became the first Indian film to be screened there.

Now, almost a decade later, the makers are returning with Tumbbad 2. The sequel is directed by Adesh Prasad and produced by Sohum Shah under Sohum Shah Films along with Pen Studios. The film is currently scheduled to release on December 3, 2027.

In April 2026, the makers officially announced the sequel on social media with a poster and wrote, “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s joining the franchise has also increased curiosity around the sequel. Over the years, the actor has become known for playing layered and grounded characters in films and streaming shows.

He started his career with small roles in films like Sarfarosh, Shool and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S before gaining attention with Black Friday. Later, Gangs of Wasseypur changed his career and established him as one of the busiest actors in Hindi cinema.

He has also appeared in films like The Lunchbox, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Raman Raghav 2.0, Raees, Mom and Manto. On OTT, he was seen in Sacred Games and the international series McMafia.

With filming currently underway, Tumbbad 2 is expected to continue the dark world and mythology introduced in the first film while bringing new characters and stories into the franchise.
