What happens when the search for a career becomes a search for identity?
THE BECOMING, a short film written, photographed, directed and edited by Sadvik Netha, turns that question into an introspective cinematic experience.
Watch the film
A philosophical and artistic short film exploring uncertainty, creativity, identity and the journey of becoming.
A story about finding a direction
Every creative journey begins with a question. For the young man at the centre of THE BECOMING, that question is closely connected to the uncertainty of choosing a direction for the future.
The film follows a young man as he explores different forms of artistic expression while trying to understand what he truly wants to create — and, ultimately, who he wants to become.
Rather than building its experience around conventional exposition, the film moves through paintings, sketches, words and images, allowing the audience to observe an internal journey taking shape through creative expression.
WATCH. QUESTION. FEEL.
When art becomes a way of searching
At its heart, THE BECOMING is concerned with the relationship between creativity and self-discovery. The film considers what happens when making art is not simply an act of production, but also a way of asking questions about life, purpose and identity.
Uncertainty
The uncertainty of choosing a direction and understanding what the future might hold.
Creativity
Art becomes a language through which the central character explores ideas, questions and possibilities.
Becoming
The film asks us to consider not only what we create, but also the person we become through the process.
The power of simplicity
One of the defining ideas behind the film is its intentionally simple approach to storytelling. Its images, sounds, silences and moments of observation are allowed to create space for individual perception.
Two viewers can watch the same sequence and walk away with different interpretations — and that difference can itself become part of the experience.
Art, made by the filmmaker
According to the filmmaker’s submission, the artwork featured in the film was created by Sadvik Netha, with no AI used in the creation of the artwork.
Paintings, sketches and images are not merely visual backgrounds; they form part of the film’s exploration of creativity and personal expression.

Not every film needs to provide an immediate answer. THE BECOMING approaches cinema as an opportunity to observe, contemplate and experience.
Its philosophical framing leaves space between what appears on screen and what the audience ultimately takes from it. Some viewers may find its approach slow or unconventional, while others may discover meaning within its details.
