T P Aggarwal Criticises FWICE Over Ranveer Singh Non-Cooperation Directive, Says He Is Planning A Film With The Actor
Veteran producer T P Aggarwal has spoken out against the non-cooperation directive issued by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) against Ranveer Singh. The producer has also moved court, questioning whether any industry body has the authority to stop members from working with an actor.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Aggarwal said he decided to take legal action after learning about the directive while discussing a new film project that could feature Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt.
Aggarwal is a well-known producer who has also served as the president of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) for several years and was associated with the Film Federation of India (FFI).
Referring to an earlier Competition Commission of India (CCI) ruling, he said industry bodies cannot impose such restrictions on individuals working in the film business.
Explaining why he approached the court, Aggarwal said such decisions can affect an artist’s ability to work and earn a livelihood. He questioned how an actor could be prevented from getting work across the industry because of a dispute.
The producer was particularly critical of FWICE’s move. He said organisations cannot use their position to pressure people in the industry and added that such actions should not become the norm.
Aggarwal also revealed that before the controversy surfaced, he had been considering a film featuring Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt. It was during those discussions that he came to know about the directive against the actor.
When asked whether FWICE officials had contacted him after the court case was filed, Aggarwal said they should have spoken to him before taking such a decision, especially given his long association with industry bodies.
He also clarified that he has not spoken to Ranveer Singh regarding the matter and said his decision to challenge the directive was based on principle rather than personal publicity.
What Is The Ranveer Singh–Don 3 Dispute?
The controversy began after reports claimed that Ranveer Singh had exited Don 3, leading to a disagreement between the actor and the film’s producers, Excel Entertainment, headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
According to reports, the production house alleged that Ranveer’s exit resulted in significant financial losses after work had already begun on pre-production, location scouting and development. Reports also claimed that Ranveer had been involved in script discussions and promotional activities related to the film before stepping away.
FWICE later issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor. However, Ranveer Singh’s legal team reportedly argued that the matter involved a private commercial agreement and did not fall under the federation’s jurisdiction.
