Top Gun Franchise Returns to Indian Cinemas from May 15 for a Limited Run
Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick are set to return to cinemas in India for a limited one-week run starting May 15, 2026. The re-release of 40 years of the original film Top Gun, which was released in 1986 and went on to become one of the most remembered films of that era.
Paramount Pictures has planned this special theatrical release, giving longtime fans a chance to relive the experience on the big screen, while also introducing a new generation of viewers to the franchise in theatres.
40 Years of Top Gun
The original Top Gun starred Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a young Navy pilot selected for the elite Fighter Weapons School, Top Gun.
Directed by Tony Scott, the film also featured Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan and Tom Skerritt.
The film earned a strong fan following over the years and remains one of Tom Cruise’s most recognised titles.
Top Gun: Maverick Also Returns
The re-release will also include Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel that was released in 2022 and became a global box office success.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film saw Tom Cruise return as Maverick more than three decades later. In the story, he trains a new group of pilots for a difficult mission while dealing with memories from his past.
The sequel also starred Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer.
Re-Release
Top Gun: Maverick collected over 1.5 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing film in Paramount Pictures’ history at the time. The return of both films gives audiences a chance to experience the story of Maverick in sequence on the big screen.
It also comes at a time when discussions around Top Gun 3 have increased after recent updates that another instalment is in development.
India Release
Paramount Pictures India will re-release Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick in cinemas across India from May 15, 2026, for one week only. Fans of action films, aviation dramas, and Tom Cruise’s filmography are expected to turn out for the limited run.
