Aamir Khan, Kabir Khan Announce Silkyara 41 Based on Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue

Aamir Khan productions, Kabir Khan films, and Australia’s Mind Blowing films have announced Silkyara 41, a film based on 2023 Silkyara tunnel rescue in Uttarakhand. 

The film will tell the story of the rescue operation in which 41 workers were trapped inside and under construction tunnel and were brought out safely after 17 days. 

The film was announced on July 9 in Mumbai and Melbourne. The project is presented as an Indo Australian collaboration, which is bringing together of a makers and creative teams from both the countries. 

The film will be directed by Kabir Khan, who has previously directed films like Kabul Express, New York, Ek Tha Tiger Bajrangi Bhaijaan 83 and Tubelight. The screenplay has been written by Australian writer Andrew Anastasios. Aamir Khan productions, Kabir Khan films, and mind blowing films are producing this film jointly.

The story of the film is inspired by the real events of November 2023, when a section of the tunnel collapsed in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi trapping 41 workers inside the tunnel. 

Several Indian rescue teams agencies worked continuously for over two weeks and they used multiple techniques before all the workers were safely rescued on November 28, 2023. 

The film will highlight the role of Professor Arnold Dix, who is an Australian tunneling expert and president of the international tunneling and underground space Association. During the operation Dix worked with Indian engineers and rescue teams to plan the final phase of the rescue. 

Talking about the project, Aamir Khan said that the rescue was a story of courage and people coming together during a difficult situation. 

The announcement has also received support from Australian leaders. Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan said that the project reflects the growing relationship between India and Australia through cinema. 

Aamir Khan productions have previously bagged films like Taare Zameen Par, Lagaan, Delhi Belly, Dangal and Laapata ladies. 

Kabir Khan’s recent work includes Chandu Champion (2024).

The makers have not yet announced the cast or the release date. More details about the film are expected in the coming days.
