Ramayana Trailer Reportedly Set to Release on July 18 Ahead of Diwali 2026 Release
The promotional campaign for Ramayana is expected to enter its next phase with the release of its official trailer. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the trailer is likely to be unveiled on July 18, nearly three and a half months before the film arrives in theatres on Diwali 2026. While the makers are yet to make an official announcement, the reported timeline continues the film’s long-term promotional strategy.
Unlike the usual marketing schedule followed by most Indian films, Ramayana has been introducing its world gradually. The film’s first announcement video was released on July 3, 2025, followed by a special teaser titled Rama on Hanuman Jayanti (April 2, 2026), which introduced Ranbir Kapoor’s character. If reports are accurate, the upcoming trailer will offer audiences a broader look at the story and its characters.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is planned as a two-part film series based on the ancient Indian epic. The first part is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The ensemble cast also includes Arun Govil as King Dasharatha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, Indira Krishnan as Kaushalya and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari. Arun Govil
The project is produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios in association with Monster Mind Creations. The film’s visual effects are being handled by DNEG, the Oscar-winning VFX studio founded by Malhotra. The music has been composed by A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, marking the first collaboration between the two composers on an Indian film. Hans Zimmer
Another major development surrounding the film is its distribution. Reports state that Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, has acquired the Hindi theatrical distribution rights for Ramayana in a deal reportedly worth ₹350 crore. If confirmed, it would become one of the biggest Hindi distribution deals for an Indian film. This also marks Dharma Productions’ association with the project for its Hindi release.
According to reports, the makers are following an international-style promotional strategy by releasing marketing material several months before the film’s release. With the trailer reportedly arriving on July 18, the campaign is expected to build momentum ahead of the film’s theatrical release during the Diwali festive season.
