Rajkummar Rao’s Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story to Release on May 14, 2027; First Poster Unveiled

The makers of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story have officially announced that the film will release in theatres on May 14, 2027. The announcement was made along with the first-look poster on the occasion of Sourav Ganguly’s birthday.

The first poster shows Rajkummar Rao recreating one of the most remembered moments in Indian cricket — Sourav Ganguly waving his jersey from the Lord’s balcony after India defeated England in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. The celebration has remained one of the defining moments of Indian cricket and is still remembered by fans.

The film is based on the life of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. It will follow his journey from his early days in cricket to becoming one of India’s most successful captains. The story is expected to cover important phases of his career, including his international debut, his return to the team after being dropped, his years as captain, and his contribution to building a new generation of Indian cricketers.

Ganguly made his Test debut at Lord’s Cricket Ground in 1996, where he scored a century. During his captaincy, India reached the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, won the NatWest Trophy in England, and recorded several memorable overseas victories. He also played a key role in backing young players such as MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag.

Rajkummar Rao will play Ganguly in the film. The actor has previously portrayed real-life personalities in films such as Shahid, where he played lawyer Shahid Azmi, and Srikanth, based on the life of Srikanth Bolla. His recent releases include Bhool Chuk Maaf and Maalik.

The film is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, whose previous work includes Udaan, Lootera and the web series Sacred Games and Black Warrant. It is produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Luv Films, and presented by T-Series along with DBL.

The makers have not revealed additional details about the cast or the storyline yet.
