Passenger Trailer Introduces A Horror Story Set On The Open Road Ahead Of May 29 Release

Passenger will release in Indian cinemas on May 29, 2026. Directed by André Øvredal, the film follows a couple whose road trip changes after they witness a highway accident and encounter a presence that begins following them.

Road-trip horror films have often explored isolation, deserted highways and the fear of being stranded far from help. Passenger takes that idea and places it at the centre of its story.

The film is written by Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess. According to the makers, the idea grew from their shared interest in horror stories connected to roads and travel. Instead of focusing on one haunted location, the film looks at a larger concept, asking what happens if the danger is not tied to a single place but follows people wherever they go.

The recently released trailer introduces a young couple travelling in a van. Their journey changes after they witness a fatal accident on a highway. What first appears to be an unfortunate incident soon becomes something else, as they realise they may have brought something with them when they left the crash site.

As the story moves forward, the couple finds themselves dealing with a presence known as the Passenger. The trailer shows them struggling to understand what is happening while trying to escape a threat that appears to stay one step ahead of them. Along the way, familiar fears associated with long-distance travel, getting lost, losing track of time and being alone on an empty road become part of the narrative.

The film is directed by André Øvredal, known for films such as Trollhunter (2010), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019). The cast includes Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell and Melissa Leo.

Produced by Paramount Pictures, Passenger is scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on May 29, 2026. The film joins a long line of road-based horror stories but places its focus on a supernatural force that follows its victims long after a single encounter.

The trailer is now available and offers the first look at the film’s central mystery before its theatrical release later this month.
