Karan Johar to host Earthshot Prize 2026 in Mumbai, first Indian to host

Karan Johar has been confirmed as the host for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize 2026 in Mumbai, making him the first Indian to preside over the awards. The event is described as marking the Prize’s first edition in India and aims to bring some of the world’s leading environmental innovators to the city.

In a video shared by Karan Johar and the official social media handles of Prince William and the Princess of Wales, the filmmaker is seen in conversation with the Prince. In an official statement, Johar said, “To be the first Indian to host The Earthshot Prize Awards Night is a moment of immense pride for me, and to do so in Mumbai makes it all the more meaningful. In cinema, we imagine new worlds. The innovators celebrated by Earthshot are showing us how to build a better one.” The clip also shows the two meeting and discussing the possibility of bringing The Earthshot Prize Awards to Mumbai for the first time.

The Earthshot Prize was founded by HRH Prince William to recognize and support ideas aimed at repairing and protecting the planet. India already has a connection with the Prize, with several Indian innovations having featured among its previous winners and finalists.

India’s growing role in climate innovation is underscored by the Prize’s expansion, and a Mumbai edition would represent the event’s first appearance in the country on this scale. The development aligns with the Prize’s broader mission of highlighting homegrown solutions on a global stage.

The latest confirmed takeaway is that Karan Johar will host The Earthshot Prize 2026 in Mumbai, marking the Prize’s first edition in India. For more DPIFF entertainment coverage, visit DPIFF News.
