Junaid Khan on Ek Din Box Office Failure; Reveals Aamir Khan’s Reaction: “It Still Really Bothers Him”

The recently released film Ek Din starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi has been addressed as disappointing at the box office. The team had expected a stronger response from the audience. The film, directed by Sunil Pandey and produced by Aamir Khan Productions’ Ek Din was released on May 1, 2026.

This romantic drama marked the debut of Sai Pallavi in Hindi Cinema. Despite early buzz and strong interest around the pairing, the movie received mixed to negative reviews and failed to perform at the box, Office.

Junaid Khan on Ek Din’s Underwhelming Box Office Performance

Talking about the film, Junaid admitted that the cast and crew were positive and hopeful, but accepted that not every project connects with a wider audience.

“We were hopeful. But I guess… It didn’t do well. It happens sometimes. It’s a film that I really liked, I really enjoyed. I think we all really liked and enjoyed it, and I guess… a lot of people did really like it, but I guess most people didn’t like it. That happens sometimes.”

Sai Pallavi’s Performance Earns Praise

Although Ek Din faced criticism over its screenplay and narrative treatment, Sai Pallavi’s performance was widely appreciated. Reviewers praised her for bringing emotional warmth and authenticity to her role, making her one of the film’s strongest highlights.

The movie is the official Hindi remake of the acclaimed 2016 Thai film One Day.

Junaid also shared how his father, Aamir Khan, responded to the film’s underperformance.

“He is still hopeful. Yeah, even after all these years, after seeing everything, it still really bothers him. But he keeps himself busy and gets back to it, and goes back out there and does it all over again.”

What’s Next for Junaid Khan?

On the professional front, Junaid Khan is reportedly being considered for the third instalment of the Ragini MMS franchise. The project is said to be backed by Ekta Kapoor and may feature Tamannaah Bhatia opposite him.
