Jon Favreau Reimagines Star Wars: A New Chapter for a New Generation of Fans

After seven years, Lucasfilm is bringing the Star Wars legacy back to the big screen with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu , directed by Jon Favreau. Few creators have shaped modern franchise storytelling quite like him, equally at home with sprawling blockbusters and intimate character-driven narratives. With The Mandalorian and Grogu, Favreau continues to expand the Star Wars universe, building on a vision that has resonated with audiences across generations.

In a recent interview, Favreau recalled being completely transformed by the wonder and spectacle of Star Wars as a 10-year-old in the summer of 1977. “To have the opportunity to present this [film] in a theatre, not just to people who have always loved Star Wars, but to introduce a new generation to Star Wars, to know that you want to reach out and get people as excited about Star Wars as you are and to make them feel the way that I felt the first time I saw it…I think that’s a responsibility,” Favreau says. “And we’ve thought tremendously about this because we’ve been working together for so long. We want to make an experience that doesn’t rely upon somebody already loving Star Wars, but gives them an opportunity to fall in love with it the way we have.”

At its heart, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu continues the emotional journey between Din Djarin and Grogu — a story Favreau describes as being, above all, about people and the connections that define them.

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” is written by Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni & Noah Kloor, and is produced by Jon Favreau, p.g.a., Kathleen Kennedy, p.g.a., Dave Filoni, p.g.a., and Ian Bryce, p.g.a., with Karen Gilchrist, John Bartnicki, and Carrie Beck serving as executive producers. The music is composed by Ludwig Göransson.
