Jon Favreau Recalls Watching Star Wars With His Father At The Mandalorian and Grogu Premiere
Jon Favreau spoke about his connection with Star Wars during the premiere of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu in Los Angeles.
At the event, Favreau remembered watching the first Star Wars film with his father nearly five decades ago. He said the film changed his life when he first watched it at the age of 10.
Speaking about continuing the legacy created by George Lucas, Favreau said that different filmmakers are now carrying the franchise forward while trying to keep the same feeling and energy alive for audiences.
He also shared a memory from his childhood and said his father explained details from the film to him during the screening, including the oil stains on the X-Wings. Favreau said he was now sitting beside his father once again, this time at the premiere of a Star Wars film he directed himself.
Favreau thanked his father during the speech and said the moment felt personal because the new film also focuses on a bond between a guardian and a child.
The film follows Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu after the fall of the Empire. The story is set during the period when the New Republic is trying to maintain order across the galaxy while Imperial groups continue operating in different regions.
The screenplay has been written by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. The film is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Ian Bryce. Karen Gilchrist, John Bartnicki and Carrie Beck serve as executive producers. Music for the film has been composed by Ludwig Göransson.
Lucasfilm will release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu in IMAX theatres on May 22, 2026, in English and Hindi.
