Golmaal 5 Is Nearly Complete, Says Tusshar Kapoor; Actor Revisits Lucky’s Origins

Golmaal actor Tusshar Kapoor has shared information on Golmaal 5, revealing that most of the film has already been shot. The actor also spoke about the origin of his popular character, Lucky, from the Golmaal franchise, and how the role evolved during the early stages of development.

Speaking about the film, Tusshar said that around 80-90% of the shoot has been completed. The upcoming instalment marks another collaboration between him and director Rohit Shetty, who launched the Golmaal franchise in 2006. The series has since expanded into one of Hindi cinema’s longest-running comedy franchises with films including Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 and Golmaal Again.

Tusshar revealed that Lucky was not originally part of the script and was added later during the development process. According to him, writer Neeraj Vora had initially imagined the character as a silent person. After Tusshar came on board, actor Sharman Joshi suggested he work with theatre actor Vikas Kadam to shape the role further.

The idea eventually changed from a completely silent character to someone who communicated through sounds and expressions instead of words. Over the years, Lucky’s unique style became one of the most recognised elements of the Golmaal films. Tusshar said audiences still ask him to perform the character’s signature sounds whenever they meet him.

The actor also praised Rohit Shetty’s work ethic and said the filmmaker continues to be one of the most disciplined directors he has worked with. He added that the cast has been working extensively to complete the film.

Apart from Tusshar Kapoor, Golmaal 5 brings back franchise regulars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi and Shreyas Talpade. The film will also feature Akshay Kumar, marking his entry into the comedy series.

Speaking about working with Akshay Kumar, Tusshar said he shares a few scenes with the actor in the film. He noted that this is their fifth collaboration, including Laxmii (2020), which he produced. According to Tusshar, the portions he has shot with Akshay Kumar are among the highlights of his experience on the project.

Tusshar Kapoor made his acting debut with the 2001 film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan. Over the years, he has appeared in films such as Khakee, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Shootout at Lokhandwala and the Golmaal series. While he has worked across different genres, Lucky remains one of the most widely recognised characters of his career.

With the shoot nearing completion, Golmaal 5 is expected to continue the story of the group that has remained at the centre of the franchise for nearly two decades.
