Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha to Play a Couple on Screen for the First Time in New Comedy Film

Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are set to appear as an on-screen couple for the first time in an untitled comedy directed by Shashie Vermaa. Although the two have shared screen space earlier in the Fukrey films, this will be their first film together as the lead pair.

The film is backed by Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions. It also stars Kumud Mishra in a key role. Set in Delhi, the story is based on everyday situations and follows a slice-of-life narrative with humour and social observations. The film is expected to go on floors in the second half of 2026 and is planned for a theatrical release in April 2027.

Ali Fazal said he was interested in the script because of its simple characters and relatable situations. He also shared that he is looking forward to working opposite Richa Chadha in a completely new way after appearing together in the Fukrey franchise. He added that he had been following Shashie Vermaa’s work and wanted to collaborate with him.

Richa Chadha said the writing felt simple and real, which made her say yes to the project. She mentioned that the story reminded her of her school days in Delhi and that this would be the first time audiences would see her and Ali playing a couple. She also recalled that in the Fukrey films, they were never paired romantically.

Director Shashie Vermaa said the film is about people, relationships and how one unexpected incident can change everything. He added that Delhi plays an important role in the story and said working with actors like Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha and Kumud Mishra will help bring the characters to life.

Producer Mukesh Giri said the story stood out because of its humour and everyday setting. He also said bringing Ali and Richa together as a romantic pair, along with Kumud Mishra, was one of the reasons the team was excited about the project.

Ali Fazal has worked in films such as 3 Idiots, Fukrey, Victoria & Abdul, Death on the Nile and Khufiya. In recent years, he has also been seen in projects like Mirzapur and Metro… In Dino. He has built a career across both Hindi cinema and international productions.

Richa Chadha made her mark with films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Masaan and the Fukrey franchise. Over the years, she has worked in films and web series across different genres. Apart from acting, she and Ali Fazal also launched their production banner, Pushing Buttons Studios, and have backed projects as producers.

The announcement comes soon after Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions completed work on Murga Trophy, a children’s sports film. With this untitled comedy, the production houses continue to add new projects to their upcoming slate.

The makers are expected to announce the film’s title and more details in the coming months. The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2027.
