Akshay Kumar’s new comedy gets a release date, The Bengal Files heads to West Bengal and Salaam-e-Ishq sequel reports surface
Three entertainment updates made headlines this week. Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee locked the release date of their upcoming comedy film, Namashi Chakraborty spoke about the release of The Bengal Files in West Bengal, and reports also claimed that Salaam-e-Ishq may get a sequel after nearly 20 years.
Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee’s next to release in December
Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee are coming back together for a new comedy film which is scheduled to release on December 4, 2026. The film also stars Vidya Balan and recently completed a shooting schedule in Kerala.
The film marks another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee after films like Welcome, Singh Is Kinng and Thank You.
Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are also sharing screen space again after working together in Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Mission Mangal.
The cast includes Raashii Khanna, Vijay Raaz and Sudesh Lehri. The film is backed by Sri Venkateswara Creations and Cape of Good Films.
Namashi Chakraborty reacts to The Bengal Files release in West Bengal
Namashi Chakraborty said that The Bengal Files will finally release in West Bengal on May 15 after not releasing in the state during its original release in 2025.
During promotions for Aakhri Sawal, the actor recalled that the team allegedly faced issues while trying to screen the trailer in Kolkata last year. He said the team was allegedly asked to leave during the event.
The Bengal Files is directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film released in other parts of India in September 2025 but did not open in West Bengal at that time.
Namashi Chakraborty is the son of actor Mithun Chakraborty and made his debut with Bad Boy.
Salaam-e-Ishq sequel reportedly in development
Reports have claimed that director Nikkhil Advani is working on a sequel to Salaam-e-Ishq.
According to reports, the sequel will follow the stories of three couples and focus on relationships and personal conflicts. The screenplay is currently being developed and the project may go on floors next year.
The first Salaam-e-Ishq released in 2007 and featured actors like Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna and Sohail Khan.
Nikkhil Advani is also working on The Revolutionaries, based on Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom.
