Akshay Kumar’s much-talked-about Marathi debut Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat is once again in the news. The film was announced with big plans, but reports now say the project has been stalled due to money-related issues. What really happened? Let’s understand.
The film was announced in 2022 and was directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. It was set to mark Akshay Kumar’s Marathi film debut, where he was cast as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Shooting for the project reportedly began in December 2022. At that time, the makers were planning a Diwali 2023 release. The film was mounted as a multi-starrer and also featured names like Pravin Tarde, Hardeek Joshi, Vishal Nikam and others.
However, the film could not meet its planned release date.
As per reports, production stopped midway after producer Vaseem Qureshi faced financial trouble. Because of this, the film went on hold and has not been completed yet.
It is also being reported that Akshay Kumar had shot for only three days for the film before moving on to his other commitments.
The story of Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat is based on seven warriors from the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Focusing on the historic Battle of Nesari, where seven soldiers fought against a much larger army and gave their lives.
The title of the film comes from a well-known poem based on their bravery.

Now, another film on Shivaji Maharaj titled Raja Shivaji is set to release on May 1, 2026. It stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, and he has also directed it. Genelia Deshmukh is also part of the cast.
The film will release in Hindi and Marathi and also features Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan and others.
