3 Idiots 2 Confirmed: Aamir Khan Says Rajkumar Hirani Is Writing the Sequel

Aamir Khan has confirmed that Rajkumar Hirani is working on the script of 3 Idiots 2. He said the new story is set 10 years later and will bring back Rancho, Farhan and Raju.

After years of fan discussions, there is now a clear update on 3 Idiots 2. Aamir Khan has shared that the sequel is in development and the script is being written by Rajkumar Hirani.

Aamir revealed this while promoting his son Junaid Khan’s upcoming film Ek Din. He said he had already heard the story and liked it.

According to Aamir, the film will continue around 10 years after the first part ended. The story is expected to revisit Rancho, Farhan and Raju and show where life has taken them now.

He also shared that the humour of the first film will stay in the sequel. At the same time, the screenplay is still being worked on.

The original 3 Idiots released in 2009 and starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film became a major hit and connected strongly with young audiences through its story on friendship, education pressure and following your passion.

Aamir said he is excited to return as Phunsukh Wangdu, also known as Rancho.

Apart from this sequel, Aamir had also planned another project with Hirani based on Dadasaheb Phalke, but that film is currently on hold.

For now, fans will be waiting for the next official announcement on 3 Idiots 2.
