Awarapan 2 Receives CBFC Clearance Ahead of Release; Gets U/A 16+ Certificate

Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 has cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical release on August 14. The film has been awarded a U/A 16+ certificate after the makers made a few changes suggested by the board.

According to reports, the CBFC asked the makers to tone down some violent sequences and include additional health disclaimers. The film now has a certified runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

The board also directed the makers to add anti-drug and anti-smoking disclaimers wherever required. Static health warnings have been included in scenes involving drug use, along with disclaimers related to child trafficking.

A few offensive words were removed from both the audio and subtitles. Three highly violent scenes were deleted, while another violent sequence in the second half was shortened. A scene showing drug consumption through snorting was also removed.

Following these modifications, the film received its censor certificate on August 5.

Interestingly, Awarapan 2 is one of the few major Hindi releases this month to receive a U/A 16+ certification instead of an Adults Only rating.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, Awarapan 2 marks the return of Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit. The film also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.

The sequel arrives nearly 19 years after the original Awarapan (2007), which went on to become a cult favourite for its story, music and Emraan Hashmi’s performance. The film is set to release in cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026.
