Rashmika Mandanna Completes Underwater Action Sequence for Mysaa; Makers Claim It Is an Indian Cinema First

Rashmika Mandanna has completed filming a major underwater action sequence for her upcoming pan-India film Mysaa. According to the makers, the sequence is India’s first female-led underwater fight scene, making it a significant moment for the film and for action cinema in India.

Directed by Rawindra Pulle and produced by Unformula Films, Mysaa is set against the backdrop of tribal lands and follows an emotional action story. The film presents Rashmika in an action-led role, which is different from many of her previous performances.

As per the production team, Rashmika performed the underwater sequence without using an action double. The shoot took place over two days, with the actor reportedly spending nearly 20 hours underwater to complete the sequence. The makers have described it as one of the biggest action portions in the film.

Sharing the update on social media, the team wrote that the sequence marks the beginning of “a new chapter in action cinema” and confirmed that the film’s teaser will be announced soon.

Rashmika also spoke about the experience on her social media. She wrote, “I know I’ve been MIA but this is what we’ve been doing. This is by far the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do in life! We are crazy for this but that’s what’s gotten me so so excited!”

The announcement has also drawn attention because underwater action has mostly been associated with male-led films in Indian cinema. In recent years, Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan performed large-scale underwater and sea-based action sequences in Devara: Part 1 (2024). Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava (2025) featured a major river battle, while The Ghazi Attack (2017) explored underwater naval combat inside a submarine. However, Mysaa is being positioned as the first Indian film to feature an underwater fight sequence led by a female protagonist.

Mysaa adds another project to Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming lineup. The actor, who has worked in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi films, was last seen in Sikandar alongside Salman Khan and will also be seen in Thama, The Girlfriend, Rainbow, Cocktail 2 and Pushpa 3, apart from Mysaa.

The makers are expected to begin promotions soon, with the teaser announcement likely to be the next major update before the film’s theatrical release in 2026.
