World Music Day: Revisiting Yeh Fitoor Mera, Kala Chashma, Qaafirana, Tareefan and Zaalima

Some songs were hits. Some songs completely took over our playlists. They became our alarm tones, our status updates, our road trip jams and sometimes even part of our  personality for a few months. Long before algorithms started building playlists for every mood, these songs somehow knew exactly where they belonged. This World Music Day, we are looking back at five tracks that didn’t just top the charts, they became moments.

1. Yeh Fitoor Mera (Fitoor)

Arijit Singh really had an entire generation staring dramatically out of windows with this one. The second Yeh Fitoor Mera started playing, suddenly every crush felt life-changing and every rainy day felt like a scene from a film. If you’ve ever imagined a relationship before it actually existed, this song probably played a major role in the fantasy.

2. Kala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho)

Some songs leave the charts. Kala Chashma never really left the function playlist. Sung by Amar Arshi, Badshah and Neha Kakkar, this track has survived weddings, college fests, office parties and dance floors for almost a decade. To this day, the opening beat is enough to get people out of their chairs.

3. Qaafirana (Kedarnath)

Sung by Arijit Singh and Nikhita Gandhi, Qaafirana became the unofficial soundtrack for quiet moments. Late-night drives, long walks, staring out of windows, this song somehow found its way into every peaceful playlist. The peace this song brings is so fresh that everytime you hear it, life stops for those 5 minutes.

4. Tareefan (Veere Di Wedding)

If Kala Chashma was the party starter, Tareefan was the chill-girl anthem.Composed by Qaran,  Sung by Badshah  with vocals by Lisa Mishra, the song took over playlists, parties and Instagram captions almost instantly. It wasn’t about romance or heartbreak. It was about feeling yourself, hyping up your friends and walking into every room like you owned it. The vibe remains unmatched.

5. Zaalima (Raees)

Sung by Arijit Singh and Harshdeep Kaur, Zaalima became the song for people who were fully, unapologetically in love. While Yeh Fitoor Mera belonged to the fantasy phase, Zaalima felt like the real thing. Add Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan’s effortless chemistry, and it became one of those songs people keep coming back to long after the film was over.

Some songs become hits. These songs became memories.
