Ram Gopal Varma To Direct Daya Nayak’s Biopic; Script Work Underway: Report

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is reportedly in discussions to direct a biopic on former Mumbai encounter specialist Daya Nayak. The project is currently in the development stage, with work underway on the screenplay and narrative.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is reportedly in talks to direct a biographical film based on former Mumbai encounter specialist Daya Nayak.

According to reports, the project is still in the early stages of development. The makers are currently working on the screenplay and discussing how Daya Nayak’s story should be presented on screen. A major studio is also expected to come on board for the film.

Sources quoted in reports stated that the idea of making a film on Daya Nayak has been discussed for some time, but conversations around the project have picked up pace in recent months. The focus at present is on developing the script and deciding the perspective from which the story will be told.

Reports also suggest that discussions have taken place about a possible connection between the proposed biopic and Varma’s 2002 crime drama Company. According to sources, the filmmaker had earlier explored the idea of a sequel that would focus on encounter specialists rather than gangsters.

It is being reported that Daya Nayak was expected to serve as a consultant during some of those earlier discussions. However, no decision has been made on whether the biopic will be a standalone film or part of a larger franchise.

The reported development comes as Ram Gopal Varma is working on multiple projects. One of them is Syndicate, a crime thriller that he has spoken about recently. The filmmaker has also announced Sarkar 4, which is expected to feature Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan returning as Subhash Nagre and Shankar Nagre.

An official announcement regarding the Daya Nayak biopic is still awaited.
