Awarapan 2 draws distributors; Dharma, Zee Studios, and AA Films meet Mukesh Bhatt for rights

Awarapan 2 has started discussions in the trade. Multiple distributors have met Mukesh Bhatt for theatrical rights. The film is set to release on August 14.

It started with a film that did not work in theatres, but stayed with the audience later.

Awarapan (2007) found its space over time. Now, its sequel is getting attention even before its release.

Last week, several distributors reached out to the office of Vishesh Films to discuss rights for Awarapan 2. The meetings were held with Mukesh Bhatt.

As per trade inputs, companies like Zee Studios, AA Films, Pen Marudhar, Jio Studios, Star Studio18 and Cinepolis showed interest.

Dharma Productions also met the team as it now handles distribution as well. A representative from Birla Studios was also present.

People in the trade said this situation is similar to earlier times when distributors competed to acquire films. The response has been strong because the first part still has recall value among the audience.

Sources say Mukesh Bhatt has met all the teams and is reviewing offers. A final decision on distribution is expected soon. The first film starred Emraan Hashmi, along with Shriya Saran, Ashutosh Rana, Ashish Vidyarthi and others. It was directed by Mohit Suri with music by Pritam Chakraborty.

The sequel is directed by Nitin Kakkar. It stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.

The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on August 14.
