Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi in Trouble? 40% Reshot After Ministry Bans China References
Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi is going through changes. The film was earlier titled Battle of Galwan. It was based on the 2020 border clash between India and China. Now, the makers have changed the direction of the film.
Ministry Concerns
The Ministry of Defence raised concerns about the content. Since India and China are in a sensitive phase, they did not want the film to affect relations. Because of this, the makers were asked to remove all direct references to China.
Change in Story
After this, Salman Khan and director Apoorva Lakhia decided to change the story. The film is no longer based on a real incident. It is now being made as a fictional story with a focus on emotions and peace.
Reshoot Details
To make these changes, the team had to reshoot around 40% of the film. Many scenes have been replaced. New scenes include moments between Salman Khan and Chitrangda Singh, more background of the characters, and a shift in the story towards peace instead of war. A Chinese song composed by Himesh Reshammiya has also been added.
Release Status

The release date is not clear now. The film was expected to be released on April 17, 2026 or May 15, 2026. But this is unlikely. The makers have submitted a new version without any China reference. The Ministry of Defence is still reviewing it. The film cannot be released without a No Objection Certificate.
Current Situation
At this point, Maatrubhumi has changed from a war-based film to a story about peace. The film is still in process, and the release may now happen later in 2026.
