From Prabhu Deva to Farah Khan: Choreographers Behind Bollywood’s Biggest Dance Hits

Bollywood songs are a major part of Indian films and choreography plays a very important role in making them do wonders. From simple hook steps to big dancing numbers, choreographers are the ones who shape how songs look on the screen.

Over these years, Bollywood has been known for its entertainment and songs have been a major part of our lives. We remember the beat, the steps and we feel on our favourite tracks but what is behind every performance is a choreographer who plans it all and executes with the actor, let’s take a look at these choreographers.

Ahmed Khan

Ahmed Khan began as a child artist in Mr India and later moved into choreography with Rangeela. He has worked on films like Taal and Ghajini, creating songs that fit well with the film’s mood.

Vaibhavi Merchant

Vaibhavi Merchant is known for mixing classical and modern dance. Her work in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam won her a National Award. She has also choreographed songs in Devdas, Dhoom, and Kalank.

Geeta Kapur

Geeta Kapur started as a background dancer and later assisted Farah Khan. She worked on films like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. She is also known for her work on dance reality shows.

Terence Lewis

Terence Lewis is known for his contemporary style. His work in films like Lagaan and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela shows a different way of using dance in storytelling.

Remo D’Souza

Remo D’Souza started from scratch and made his place in the industry. He has choreographed songs like “Deewani Mastani” from Bajirao Mastani and also directed films like ABCD and choreographed its songs.

Prabhu Deva

Prabhu Deva is known for his energy and unique style. Songs like “Muqabla” and “Kay Sera Sera” became very famous. His work in Kadhalan established a new style for dance in films.

Ganesh Acharya

Ganesh Acharya has worked on many films over the years. Songs like “Beedi” from Omkara and tracks from Rowdy Rathore show his mass style.

Farah Khan

Farah Khan has choreographed some of the biggest Bollywood songs. From “Chaiyya Chaiyya” in Dil Se to songs in Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, her work is known for scale.

Shiamak Davar

Shiamak Davar brought contemporary dance to Bollywood. He worked on films like Taal and has trained many dancers.

Chinni Prakash

Chinni Prakash has been part of Bollywood for a long time. Songs like “Jumma Chumma” from Hum and “Tamma Tamma” from Thanedaar are still remembered.

These are the choreographers who have played a big role in how Bollywood songs look today. It is not just about the steps or the music, but it is also about how you feel when you watch a song and that is only created by the choreographer. Many times, people remember a step or a moment from the song, even after the film is over and after many years.

This shows the impact of their work, like a simple hook step that everyone copies or sees becomes immensely popular on social media. Even now many songs follow what they created earlier. Their style is still part of how song pieces are made even in today’s time.
